I think this may be the first time that I have not "answered the bell", so to speak. Today I was supposed to run the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Half Marathon. I had everything ready to go. Chip on the shoe. Number pinned on the shirt. Ready.

And I never even walked out the door.

The events of the past few weeks have left me just exhausted physically and emotionally. I ran the half marathon LAST weekend at Disneyland because - well - I wanted the medal. Today, though, I just couldn't do it. I couldn't face the start line, the people, the distance, or myself.

It's a first.

I think positively oriented people tend to instinctively churn through rough spots and don't realize that even the most positive person is human and is not immune to emotional impact. Your general nature hasn't changed, but your brain is needing a moment to sort it's socks. You still remain just as penguiney as ever! Thanks for all of it.

No harm done...we all need a break every now and again. You're still out there doing it on a regular basis, and that's more than most people can say.

I recently was finishing a 5k and heard another runner tell her son, "I finished...and I didn't even walk!" I was very surprised. We all need a break, even to walk a bit or skip a race. As you write in your book, its healthy to walk a bit...and listen to your body.
